A LITTLE ABOUT MARIO at the rescue:
Mario is our current longest resident at the rescue. He was rescued alongside his siblings and Mama Bucky (our underbite queen♥️) in July 2024 when someone was threatening to throw them in the trash if they weren’t removed from their property. Their entire litter was definitely more timid and skittish than most puppies we have had at the rescue, with Mario being the most timid of them all. One by one his siblings got adopted and almost one year later Mario is still here waiting for his furever home.
Mario is extremely skittish but has never been aggressive, he is just very scared of humans. We sent Mario with a foster for a month so we could see if he opened up and how he would do in a home setting. He was extremely nervous the first 24-48 hours, but slowly he began to open up. One thing about Mario is that he LOVES dogs. He attached to the foster’s two dogs quickly and looked up to them. The foster said he would often copy them and just wanted to be wherever they were. If they had a toy, he needed to have a toy. If they went outside, he went outside. If they cuddled up on the bed, he would be cuddled up with them.
While Mario may not be a super affectionate dog with humans (as of now), he did open up a lot with his foster human over the course of the month and more and more would approach her for pets and love which was a huge step. What we have learned is that if you approach Mario, especially fast or sudden, he will dart but if you chill and let him come to you, he will come up and let you love on him especially if there are other dogs around.
We did see a lot of improvements while he was with his foster for just a month and even afterwards when he returned to the rescue so we are very confident that this sweet boy just really needs a home to flourish and thrive♥️🌱
Shy dogs often get overlooked as they take longer to come out of their shell, but when they do it makes the bond even more special. We would love for Mario to end up in a home with at least one other confident dog, we are sure that they will be the best of friends!
Mario is vaccinated, neutered and ready to find his furever home!
